.Where to Find Information

Encyclopedias cannot be cited for a formal research paper; however, they are great for getting an overview of your topic and for finding key words, topics and subtopics.  You will find hard copy encyclopedias in the Media Center.(REF 031)  Online encyclopedia sources include:  World Book, Grolier Online,
2 Books are great resources; however, if your topic is one that requires current information, check the copyright date before using the book. Our online catalog is Destiny and can be found by clicking here.   Books can also be found under the book tab when searching databases. 
3 eBooks are searchable online books.  eBooks can be found in WISEOWL and in our collection. Search Destiny for a list of ebooks at MRHS.
4 Magazines are great sources of current information.  Make sure the article your are using does not have a bias. The Media Center is ordering very few magazine titles because we have access to a great variety of titles online. Magazine articles can be found in most databases.  You  will find a tab across the top indicating the type of resource available by clicking the tab. Click here for databases.

Databases vs Internet:

The Internet: is vast network of computers around the globe that share information such as news, commercials, entertainment, academic research, government documents, hoaxes and scams.  Truth and lies can be found on the Internet and every site much be evaluated for the value of its content.

A Database is data presented in searchable, online format.  The information is reviewed and trustworthy
      .  Information contained in databases includes:  Newspapers articles, magazine articles, reference book
         text, primary source documents, maps, statistics, graphics and photos.  There is no need to evaluate
