Laminating

The laminating procedure has changed.  Please feel free to laminate your own items.  Directions are posted above the laminator.  If you contact us 20 minutes before coming to the Media Center we will turn the laminator on for you.  HINT:  Office Max Laminating film is much thinker than ours.  They will do the laminating for you at no charge until 9/13.

Adobe CS3 Suite

The Media Center has 2 Adobe CS3 DVDS to circulate.  Our license permits you to place one copy on your school computer and one on your home computer.   These disks will be circulated by the Media Center or bring your own DVD and make a copy.  Julie is creating an icon for the desktops of computers that will allow you to load Adobe CS3 to any computer in your room.  This service is several weeks away.  Until then, the Media Center has the disks.  I will keep you informed.

Forms

Reminder:  All Media Center forms can be accessed from the Media Center Website, left navigation, forms.

Great Weblinks

Filamentality is a fill-in-the-blank tool that guides you through picking a topic, searching the Internet, gathering good Internet links, and turning them into online learning activities. Support is built-in along the way through Mentality Tips. In the end, you'll create a web-based activity you can share with others even if you don't know anything about HTML or serving web pages.
Small Grants: With support from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, the North Carolina Civic Education Consortium offers grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 for innovative and collaborative civic education programs within the state of North Carolina.

Google PRO/CON

Google Con:
"Harvard faculty and librarians often warn students about the potential risks of using Google for academic research. After all, Web sites are often unstable, unscholarly, and, generally, a poor substitute for library collections or the subscription electronic resources available through E-Research.

Google Pro:
Nevertheless, there are a growing number of legitimate research guides, full-text collections, and other scholarly tools on the free Web worth exploring. The challenge, with hundreds of millions of indexed sites, is finding the right ones. Fortunately, there are a number of search techniques that researchers can use to refine their Google search results. "
To learn some of these techniques visit:
 "A Scholarly Guide to Google.",
