Multimedia and Video Editing
Mrs. Tunno

Marvin Ridge High School
Prerequisites: By application only

Course Description

This course is designed to introduce students at Marvin Ridge HS to a variety of multimedia applications, both open source and licensed, as well as the elements of video production and digital video editing.

Equipment: 

  • Digital Cameras:  3 Cannon Powershot A540 6MP
  • Camcorders:  2  Camcorders
  • Editing Software:  CS3 Premiere, iMovie, GarageBand
  • iMac, 20-inch
  • Other software:  Open source
  • Small Wonder (Digital Video Camera)
Course Objectives:

     Students will:
  1. Evaluate and critique quality video productions.
  2. Learn how to use the Project Window, Source Monitor, Timeline, and Record Monitor in Adobe Premiere CS3.
  3. Write scripts in broadcast style.
  4. Storyboard scripts.
  5. Learn and demonstrate the fundamental concepts of video editing using a variety of software.
  6. Learn the three areas of the digital editor's workflow:  pre-production planning, production and post-production editing.
  7. Experiment with camera angles, while observing the 180 degree rule.
  8. Demonstrate an understanding of digital camera basic  such as: basic camera shots, lighting techniques, and audio recording techniques.
  9. Students will learn how to use open source and licensed software.
  10. Exhibit knowledge of ethical awareness as it relates to proper on-camera etiquette and fundamental US copyright law related to mass communication.
  11. Use Web 2.0 techniques to:
    • Post a blog to journal class reflections
    • Keep an online calendar of productions
  12. Set up equipment and carry out other duties as assigned.
Evaluation will be based on:
  • Equipment competencies.
  • Work ethic.
  • Tests and quizzes.
  • Assigned projects and projects requested by teachers and staff.
  • Professionalism in dealing with faculty and staff when scheduling productions as well as:
    • Organization
    • Time on task
    • Attendance
    • Attitude
    • Completion of work on time
Use of Equipment:
  • Students must have a Marvin Ridge High School Technology Use Contract signed and on file in the main office.
  • Students must reimburse the school for equipment damage due to misuse.
  • No food, water, or beverage  is permitted.

Class Rules:

  • Students are expected to :
    • Strive for excellence. and conduct themselves professionally at all times .  Much of the work will be done independently  so a good work ethic is required.
    • Be on time and prepared for work and enjoyment.
    • Strive to do the best they can do.
    • Be polite.
    • Use computers for course-related work only.
    • Speak one at a time.
    • Take turns on the MAC.
    • Meet the deadlines set up in assigned work.
    • Put things away at the end of each class.

2.01 Practice and refine knowledge and skills in keyboarding/word processing/desktop publishing, spreadsheets, databases, multimedia, and telecommunications in preparing classroom assignments and projects.

2.02 Select and use appropriate technology tools to efficiently collect, analyze, and display data.
 
Competency Goal 3: The learner will use a variety of technologies to access, analyze, interpret, synthesize, apply, and communicate information.
 
3.01 Select and use appropriate technology tools to efficiently collect, analyze, and display data.
 
3.04 Use technological tools for class assignments, projects, and presentations
 
3.05 Adhere to Fair Use and Multimedia Copyright Guidelines, citing sources of copyrighted materials in papers, projects, and multimedia presentations.
